What is A2P 10DLC Brand Registration

Starting March 1, 2023 US carriers require that all companies register their “brand” and the “campaigns” they intend to deliver messages on thus gain approval from the TCR before they can send those messages. The Campaign Registry (TCR) was established by the three main mobile carriers in North America—Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile—to oversee and verify 10DLC registration. In a central database, TCR keeps track of which companies are texting from these lines and what kinds of messages they are sending. It’s the carriers’ method of ensuring that SMS-Texting remains a viable medium of communication when more companies, like yours, start messaging customers. A2P Text messaging is not meant for marketing to consumers for which you do not have an established relationship with.

By registering 10DLC numbers, it reduces spam likely notifications and improves deliverability, which will ultimately raise the credibility of your own messages with clients. Any sort of traffic in which a person is receiving text messages from an application is known as A2P, or application-to-person messaging. Appointment reminders, chatbots or virtual assistants, notifications, and one-time passwords (OTPs) or PIN numbers are just a few examples of A2P messaging.

What are the A2P 10DLC Requirements?

The A2P 10DLC registration process has two parts:

Brand Registration: Businesses must identify themselves to the carrier networks.
Campaign Registration: Businesses must give examples of the messages they’re sending and provide a medium in which the consumers opted in to receive their text messages.

This vetting process ensures that businesses are legitimate and comply with regulations set forth by the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA).

  • Provide a secure website — that represents your business. Registrations of a website, that lack an SSL certificate to support the HTTPS protocol, and those whose websites display boilerplate content or templates are likely to be rejected. The website should include About Us, Contact Us, Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy pages. A website without these pages is not considered compliant. An example website opt-in form is shown here www.intercloud9.com/opt-in with correct opt in language.
  • Provide a working phone number — preferably, the same one mentioned on your website’s contact or support page. TCR may attempt to verify the authenticity of this phone number.
  • Provide a working email address — the same one mentioned on your website’s contact or support page and site url. A personal email address from a provider like Gmail or Yahoo or one from a disposable domain is likely to result in your brand registration being rejected.

During the brand registration process you will be allocated 100 messages for testing and set up. Once your brand has been registered and approved with the carriers you will then be granted delivery on their respective network. Due note carriers may still block messages during testing till you are fully vested.
